River Monsters Season 7 to premiere on Animal Planet on 5 April

Animal Planet’s top rated show, River Monsters, is returning for Season 7 in April, including an episode shot in Cambodia with Hanuman Films last year, “Mekong Mutilator”.

“Jeremy ventures to the Mekong River in Cambodia after receiving a disturbing report of a bloody attack by a toothy predator that has sliced clean through a young man’s testicle. The clues carry Jeremy to the largest natural lake in Southeast Asia where he ditches his rod for a native fishing custom and zones in on the deceivingly adorable freshwater pufferfish.”

On Location with Hanuman Films at the Great Preah Khan Temple

Join a virtual location scout to the Great Preah Khan Temple of Kompong Svay, not to be confused with the other Preah Khan in Siem Reap which is part of the Grand Circuit at Angkor.

Also know as Bakan, this temple was considered one of the largest built during that time. It has been quite badly damaged by looting over the years, but retains a well-preserved 4-face temple called Prasat Preah Stung.

It used to be the Mother of all Temples to reach, located in splendid isolation at the end of decaying Angkorian roads and snaking sandy tracks. However, today there is a good road right up to the temple passing through Sangkum Thmei District in Preah Vihear Province. Journey times from Preah Vihear City (2hrs) and Kompong Thom (3hrs) have been reduced dramatically.

On Location at the King of the Mountain Temples, Preah Vihear

Location, location, location, join Hanuman Films on a scout at Preah Vihear, a dramatic mountain-top temple perched on the cliffs of the Dangrek Mountains.

This imposing temple marks the border between Cambodia and Thailand. It sits 600m, above the Cambodian plains below, and many consider its location the most dramatic of all the Angkorian temples. The final level of the temple clings to a cliff face in the Dangrek Mountains, towering hundreds of metres above lowland Cambodia below. The views from this most mountainous of temple mountains are breathtaking, the foundation stones of the temple stretching to the edge of the cliff as it plunges precipitously away to the plains below.

Expedition Unknown in Cambodia for the pilot episode on Travel Channel

Josh Gates and the Expedition Unknown were recently in Cambodia to film the first episode in a new series for Travel Channel.

Expedition Unknown chronicles the adventures of Josh Gates as he investigates iconic mysteries across the globe. Gates begins by interviewing key eyewitnesses and uncovering recent developments in the story, then springboards into a fully immersive exploration. This authentic, roughshod adventure leads Gates closer to the truth behind these unanswered global enigmas, such as the disappearance of Amelia Earhart’s plane.

Josh Gates is an adventurer and avid explorer with a unique brand of humor and passion for off-the-map excursions. Former Destination Truth presenter Josh Gates has already been to Cambodia several times, including shoots on the ‘jungle girl’ of Ratanakiri in 2007 and the ghosts of Angkor in 2010. Following a brief private trip last year, the Hanuman Films team was really happy to welcome him and the crew back to Cambodia.

In this episode, Josh Gates investigates the mystery of the ‘lost city’ of Mahendraparvata on the holy mountain of Phnom Kulen, about 50km from the temples of Angkor. We won’t give away any more details, but the show promises to be a cracker as Josh explores the backwaters of Cambodia.

Nick Ray worked with the Expedition Unknown team on scouting locations for the story and caught up on camera with Josh in Phnom Penh. Kulikar Sotho worked on the shoot, directing some of the ambitious recreation scenes around the temples of Angkor and also appeared in an on-camera interview with Josh.

Watch out for Expedition Unknown, coming soon to Travel Channel.

Lonely Planet Flight of the Gibbon Angkor Video

Nick Ray and the Hanuman Films team recently joined up with Lonely Planet to produce a series of short videos for a new Healthy Holidays microsite.

Three themes are explored, including Grow at the good cause Helping Hands Cooking School in Bangkok and Unwind at the Samahita Retreat on Ko Samui. The third of the trilogy is Move and features the new Flight of the Gibbon Angkor, a real adrenaline buzz in the jungle canopy near Siem Reap. The Hanuman Films crew was the first to film the fully open course with its 10 ziplines up and running, including a ‘honeymoon’ tandem line, rope bridges, a treehouse and an abseil descent.

Be sure to experience Flight of the Gibbon Angkor as part of a stay in Siem Reap. The temples are one of the world’s most magnificent sights, but adrenaline activities like this are the perfect way to balance the spiritual side of things.
