Hanuman Films worked as the line production company on BBC’s Top Gear Vietnam special, widely hailed as one of their most successful shows to date, eventually broadcast as a 75-minute special. Our Company Adviser Nick Ray was Line Producer for the shoot which saw Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May travel by Vespa, Minsk and Honda Cub respectively from Saigon to Hanoi. They finished their trip on Halong Bay where they converted the motorbikes into amphibious vehicles. This is likely to be the first and last time anyone is crazy enough to explore Halong Bay by motorbike and Hanuman was on hand to make it all possible.

At Hanuman Films we are not only a Production servicing company, but also a Video Production company, producing, shooting and editing our own Videos and for clients.

Some of the services Hanuman Films can provide:

Event filming and planning

Photoshoot servicing

NGO donor filming

NGO documentaries/ fund-raising videos

We Produce all the corporate videos for our sister Company ‘ Hanuman Travel ‘ (www.hanuman.travel) which include Tour highlights videos and partner hotel videos. The videos can be seen on Hanuman Travels very own Youtube Channel ‘Hanuman Travel TV’.

http://www.youtube.com/hanumantourism

Last week we were shooting at the world renowned Raffles Hotel Le Royal in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. The hotel boasts some of the best French Colonial Interior and Exterior Locations in Indochina today. We enjoy a close relationship with the Hotel which means a smooth flowing Production and keeping to budget.

If you require French colonial Locations for your shoot, then Hanuman Films can find the location to fit the bill throughout Cambodia, Laos or Vietnam.

Our Locations Director Nick Ray has put more miles in than most around the region and has a keen eye for marrying the right locations with the right productions. As well as a detailed working knowledge of leading locations such as the temples of Angkor in Cambodia, the natural wonders of Halong Bay in Vietnam or Luang Prabang in Laos, and great Asian cities from Phnom Penh to Saigon, Nick has also ventured far into the interior, delving much deeper into a country to hit the spot. He has clocked up hundreds of days on the road in the region, working on six editions of Lonely Planet’s South-East Asia on a Shoestring, six editions of Cambodia, four editions of Vietnam and three editions of Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos. In the world of film, he has notched up dozens of major scouts for film and television and knows the Mekong region like the back of his hand.

Pair up Nick’s Knowledge with our Huge Database of Location images and video footage then you have got Hanuman Films as your Number one partner for Location Scouts in Indochina.

The 4 member US crew arrived on Friday 24th February to shoot the third and final instalment of their Cambodia part for the Feature Film 10 x 10. They had previously travelled to Cambodia in August and December of 2010 both times using Hanuman Films as their local servicing company.

During their one week shoot in Cambodia this time around the crew shot in various locations around Phnom Penh such as the riverside area, A New day in Cambodia, schools and a slum area, as well as Siem Reap Dump. Hanuman Films. Hanuman worked on all permissions, logistics and ensured yet another successful shoot and a good time for the crew.

Hanuman Films used their strong local contacts to set up meetings with the crew and local NGO’s.They worked alongside A New Day Cambodia and Loung Ung, the Cambodian-American writer, speaking to and hearing the stories of many incredible girls. Eventually though, we were most compelled by the inspiring story of Sokha Chen, a 16-year-old orphan we met at A New Day Cambodia who is now the main candidate for the Cambodian portion of the film.

10×10 is a Ground breaking feature film and social action campaign focusing on the core message that educating girls in the developing world will bring about transformational global change. The project has taken 10×10 all over the world, from Peru and Haiti to Nepal and Cambodia, and has attracted the support of major corporate funders (Intel, Google), political backers (Clinton Global Initiative, Women in the World), and NGO partners (World Vision, CARE).

The cornerstone of the campaign is the feature film which tells the stories of 10 remarkable girls from 10 countries. Each narrative is written by a prominent female writer from each country who helps to bring to life these girls’ unique tales of triumph and achievement against overwhelming odds.

Sokha is a reminder to Cambodians and people all across the world that hope is never truly lost. The documentary film is sure to help to raise Cambodia’s profile and introduce more visitors to the country.

US creative agency Bergdorf Goodman travelled to Cambodia for a major fashion shoot in late-2011 for leading international brands such as Armani and Gucci. The main team spent 10 days in-country and used a mix of three different crews. On their three-day shoot in Phnom Penh, the main US crew were supported by a French technical crew led by well known photographer Arnaud Pyvka. Locations included the Royal University of Phnom Penh, old colonial-era buildings, some typical local markets. The Royal Palace is usually a sensitive location to arrange filming permission due to its continuing role as a royal residence, but Hanuman has the right connections to make it happen.

The US crew then transferred to Siem Reap to be met by their second technical crew from the UK with photographer Jacob Sutton. The team shot at various Angkor temples including Ta Prohm, Pre Rup and Bayon from their base at the luxurious Amansara. This elegant retreat has already played host to Angeline Jolie and Brad Pitt, as well as legendary Rolling Stone Sir Mick Jagger. Overall the shoot was a great success and these iconic images from Phnom Penh and the temples of Angkor will be adorning billboards and fashion spreads in the coming months as the new collections are unveiled.

The Spring collection has just been announced to the public and here is Bergdorf Goodmans review on Cambodia.

The Documentary Film ‘Brother Number One’ has been doing the rounds at a raft of international film festivals over the past few months and look to be entering yet another one to the list at the end of the month in France.

The story of New Zealand rower Rob Hamill’s search for the truth behind his brother Kerry Hamill’s imprisonment and execution at the notorious S-21 Prison in Phnom Penh. Rob Hamill rose to fame in his native New Zealand as an Olympic rower and later went on to row around the world, as featured in his book The Naked Rower. He decided to return to Cambodia to discover what really happened to his brother Kerry and his two friends after their boat, The Foxy Lady, drifted into Cambodian waters in 1978.

Returning to Cambodia was a highly emotional journey for Rob and the film crew. As well as travelling to locations as diverse as Koh Tang Island, Tuol Sleng Prison and the former Khmer Rouge stronghold of Pailin, Rob also confronted Comrade Duch, former Commandant of S-21 Prison, at the Khmer Rouge Tribunal in Phnom Penh. Line Producer Kulikar Sotho became increasingly involved in the film, as she sought to help Rob discover the truth and in turn learn more about the disappearance of her Father, her Uncle and other relatives during the Khmer Rouge period in Cambodia. Together they uncovered more information about the death of loved ones as they journeyed through Cambodia confronting former revolutionaries about their role in the time of Democratic Kampuchea.

Premiered in Auckland in July 2011, it has received widespread from film critics and is being earmarked for film festivals and a general release in New Zealand and Australia. Hanuman Films was intimately involved in this production with Kulikar Sotho working as Line Producer and joining Rob Hamill on screen as he journeyed into a painful past. Hanuman also provided permissions and logistical support throughout the shoot.

Now the director Annie Goldson is heading to the international festival of audiovisual programs in France at the end of this month to screen the film.

Here are the screening locations and times:

Heres the trailer for the film and some info on Hanuman Film’s involvement.

A major independent Australian feature film directed by Kieran Darcy-Smith, Wish You Were Here stars Joel Edgerton and Teresa Palmer. Originally shot with the working title Say Nothing, the crew spent two weeks filming in Cambodia in January 2011. The story of two young couples on a carefree holiday in Cambodia, only three of the four traveller return. As the drama unfolds in Sydney between the three survivors, flashbacks take us to Cambodia to unravel the mysterious disappearance.

Hanuman Films was chosen as the partner for local production servicing in Cambodia. The original scout took place in August 2010 with Location Manger Nick Ray working closely with Director Kieran Darcy Smith, Producer Angie Fielder and Line Producer Michael Cody. All locations in Phnom Penh and Sihanoukville were finalised at this time and the preparations began. Some elements of the script were quite sensitive, including a hedonistic beach party, an underage brothel-bar and a street fight resulting in the death of an international traveller. However, Hanuman Films was able to ensure a successful shoot through careful negotiations with the relevant authorities.

The Cambodia shoot involved several complicated night scenes, with the crew rolling through the night. The beach party was a controlled live event with real backpackers mixed in with extras and actors and was a major success. Other night scenes took place in remote suburbs of Sihanoukville and involved careful noise and crowd control as the action unfolded.

As well as a host of celebrated international actors, the production worked with a number of leading Vietnamese and Cambodian actors and a host of extras sourced in Phnom Penh and Sihanoukville. Most of the support crew, including grips and gaffers, costume and make-up, were also sourced within Cambodia. The majority of the film was shot on a Canon 5D Mark II, a camera that Hanuman Films can supply here in Cambodia, together with our newer Sony PMW EX1R.
